The Bottom Line

Hillbilly Herald rocks!!!

Rock n roll

This was my first visit to The Bowery Electric in NYC.  Cool place.  While it's small and dark downstairs, it's a great setting for an up-close-and-personal gig.  The room had surprisingly good acoustics for a brick-walled basement.  Gotta give a shout out to the sound guy.

The Show

I last saw the Hillbillies open for Steel Panther at Irving Plaza, a much larger venue, and was very impressed.  So I was really looking forward to this show and the boys didn't disappoint.

There's nothin fake about these guys.  They took the stage in leather, denim and shades, then blasted out song after song of groovin rock n roll.  They ripped through a set of old(er) and new tunes (including those on Sunday's Best) with flawless execution and kept the crowd singin along from start to finish.

Given the small venue, there was no need for Marshall stacks, an elaborate light show, etc.  Straight-forward, simple and energetic.  Gotta give em credit for giving it their all at The Bowery Electric even though they're doing much larger shows opening for Slash across the country.  The Hillbillies obviously respect their fans and take their music seriously.

What's Knext?

If you haven't bought it yet, get the Sunday's Best EP.  If you haven't seen Hillbilly Herald live yet, get off your ass and get to a show!  If you have seen them live before, then go see them every time they're close to your town because it won't be long before they're headlining large shows and the "up-close-and-personal" days are a thing of the past.  I said it once and I'll say it again, Hillbilly Herald kicks ass my friend!!!
